The Start of Conference Play

Conference play started out strong with the Panthers off to a 3-0 start! Wins have come against UNC Ashville, Winthrop and Liberty. The ladies have looked very strong defensively and offensively allowing only one goal while scoring six! The 3-0 record puts the Panthers in second place in the conference with only Coastal Carolina ahead of them with five wins.

The Panthers lost a heart breaker to Charleston Southern Saturday 2-1 in a double overtime match. Charleston came from behind and scored with 3 seconds left in regulation to force overtime. Looking to bounce back and finish conference play as strong as they started the Panthers travel to Presbyterian on Wednesday at 4pm and are back at home in Vert Stadium on Saturday against VMI at 7pm. Come out and support your Panthers Saturday night at Vert Stadium as they try and finish strong and head into the conference tournament ranked number 1!

The Long Month of September

WHEW! September has been a long month for the HPU women's soccer team! The team traveled over 2500 miles (all by bus) and spent every weekend in a hotel. All while posting an impressive 3-1-2 record with 18 goals for and only 8 against as well as posting 2 shutouts. The highlight of the month came in Murfreesboro, TN at the MTSU tournament where the Panthers took home the championship trophy with wins over Alabama A&M (4-0) and the host team MTSU (3-2) who had never lost in their home tournament. Our ties came against rival Elon Universisty (1-1) and Georgia Southern (4-4) with the lone loss of the month coming to College of Charleston (1-0). We topped off the long month with a win at South Carolina State (6-0) which is a great way to finish our non-conference schedule and should catapult us into conference play which starts this Wednesday October 1st at UNC Asheville and then at home against Winthrop on Friday October 4th. We urge everyone to come out and support your HPU women's soccer team throughout conference play as we have 4 home games in the month of October and 1 in November as well as hosting the Big South Tournament November 6-9 right here at Vert Stadium. Check back often as updates will be posted regularly as well as some of your favorite players will be making posts and contributions for everyone to enjoy. Pictures from the trips will be posted soon.

Inside HPU Admissions

This is the first installment of our own HPU campus tour - some of the HPU athletic administration and coaching staff were able to take an actual campus tour ... similar to the tour that they give to all prospective students that want to enter HPU. Laney and Sally are awesome ... they are the first people you see when you enter the admissions building at High Point University. They are funny and welcoming all at the same time ... they're fairly talented ... see for yourselves!

Sixty Four Panther Athletic Representatives Among Ranks of HPU Graduating Class

A group of 64 High Point University student-athletes, former student-athletes, athletic trainers and team managers were among the over 600 HPU graduates recognized during the University's recently completed commencement ceremony.

The student-athlete contingency was comprised of participants from all of HPU's sponsored sports and included both undergraduate and graduate degree recipients. Panther student-athletes who earned their degree in August 2007, December 2007 or May 2008 were also recognized at the event.

HPU Women’s Soccer was represented by nine graduates – one master’s recipient and eight undergraduates. Incredibly, all eight undergrads received a minimum of Cum Laude honors, indicating that they are at the top of their respective majors. “We are extremely proud of all our seniors and their leadership both academically and athletically”, said Panther head coach Michelle Rayner. “As you can see all of our senior class received some type of honors along with graduating which demonstrates the importance the athletes place on their academics and that they look to be the absolute best they can be. Our goal is to find and develop the best student-athletes, and this senior class exemplifies that.”

Supreme Court Justice, Clarence Thomas served as the commencement speaker for the ceremony which was held on the front lawn of Roberts Hall on the HPU campus. Grammy Award Winner Lee Greenwood performed his hit "God Bless the USA" as Challenger, a bald eagle, flew over all in attendance.

The following is a list of HPU's women’s soccer student-athlete graduates for this year...
